Cross-sectional behaviour of wire arc additively manufactured tubular beams

چکیده

Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is a promising metal 3D printing technique in the construction industry for its ability to produce large and complex-shaped elements, with reasonable accuracy, time costs. There currently, however, lack of fundamental test data on structural performance WAAM elements. To address this, an experimental study into cross-sectional behaviour tubular beams has been conducted presented herein. A total 14 stainless steel square, rectangular irregular hollow sections, spanning over all cross-section classes EN 1993-1-4 AISC 370, were tested four-point bending. laser scanning, silicone casting Archimedes’ measurements employed collectively determine as-built geometry local geometric imperfections specimens, while digital image correlation (DIC) was used monitor deformation responses specimens during testing. The full moment–curvature histories key results are discussed. Similar that equivalent, conventionally manufactured sections observed, more slender cross-sections showing increased susceptibility buckling. However, owing inherent variability WAAM, printed exhibited variable flexural capacities between repeat than generally displayed by produced sections. Finally, assess applicability current design provisions European (EN 1993-1-4) American (AISC 370) specifications, as well continuous strength method (CSM), beams.

Mechanical Properties of Additively Manufactured Thick Honeycombs

Honeycombs resemble the structure of a number of natural and biological materials such as cancellous bone, wood, and cork. Thick honeycomb could be also used for energy absorption applications. Moreover, studying the mechanical behavior of honeycombs under in-plane loading could help understanding the mechanical behavior of more complex 3D tessellated structures such as porous biomaterials. In ...

Additively manufactured medical products – the FDA perspective

Additive manufacturing/3D printing of medical devices is becoming more commonplace, a 3D printed drug is now commercially available, and bioprinting is poised to transition from laboratory to market. Despite the variety of technologies enabling these products, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is charged with protecting and promoting the public health by ensuring these products are safe...

Additively Manufactured Pneumatically Driven Skin Electrodes

Telemedicine focuses on improving the quality of health care, particularly in out-of-hospital settings. One of the most important applications is the continuous remote monitoring of vital parameters. Long-term monitoring of biopotentials requires skin-electrodes. State-of-the-art electrodes such as Ag/AgCl wet electrodes lead, especially during long-term application, to complications, e.g., ski...

Additively manufactured sub-periosteal jaw implants.

Severe bone atrophy jeopardizes the success of endosseous implants. This technical note aims to present the innovative concept of additively manufactured sub-periosteal jaw implants (AMSJIs). Digital datasets of the patient's jaws and wax trial in occlusion are used to segment the bone and dental arches, for the design of a sub-periosteal frame and abutments in the optimal location related to t...

Additively Manufactured Porous Biomaterials and Implants

Recent advances in additive manufacturing (AM) techniques (otherwise known as 3D printing) have enabled fabrication of a new class of porous biomaterials (Figure 1) with arbitrarily complex and precisely controlled topologies that e.g. resemble the geometry and micro-architecture of (trabecular) bone. Since the geometry of scaffolds and biomaterials is an important factor in bone tissue regener...
